HEATHER AND THE MAGIC HUSKY

By McKenna , 4th grade

A long time ago there was a girl named Heather. Heather was beautiful, smart and obedient. She lived in Alaska. Her mother died right after she was born.
Her father was poor because he had not had a job in a long time. One day he left Alaska to lead an expedition. While he was gone he left Heather with their neighbor.
Their neighbor's name was Samantha Swain. People called her Miss Swain. Miss Swain had two daughters named Janice and Lanice, they were twins. They were not very pretty. Miss Swain's husband died and since then she was mean to everyone except her daughters.
They lived in a big house with a big yard and a barn where they kept 21 huskies. 19 of them pulled sleds and two of them are puppies. Heather loved to play with them.
As soon as her father left Samantha made Heather do many chores. She also made her sleep in the barn with the huskies. After a while every day she had to do the same thing.
But all that was changed by a letter. One day Heather was cooking breakfast. When a man came carrying a letter. He said it was an urgent letter for Heather Cox. She told the man that was her name, so he left.
She opened the letter and it was from her father! It said,
"Dear Heather, I miss you a lot and I cannot wait to see you. Guess what? I found a job!I am going to take the President and his son, Tom, around Alaska to go on their regular hunting trip. So I will see you soon. Oh! We are coming in a week. Love, your Father."
When she was done reading the letter, Samantha came and took it out of her hand and read it. Then she told her daughters and they screamed.
They decided to have a party at their house for the President and Tom. For the next few days they were busy decorating the house.
When the day arrived, Heather was feeding the dogs when Miss Swain locked the door. Heather was very mad and started to scream and cry. Miss Swain told Heather to be quiet and if she was quiet she would let her out after the party.
Heather could hear the guests arrive, and she thought, "what am I going to do? I must see my father."
Then suddenly the oldest of the huskies started talking to her. He said, "since you have taken such good care of us, we will take care of you."
Then he howled and she was in a beautiful dress. He barked and the door of the barn opened. He said that the magic would end at 12:00. She said, "OK," and left.
As son as she walked in the door the President's son, Tom, fell in love with her.
Heather's father introduced them. They decided to get married. And they lived happily ever after.
